Classification of causes of death is according to the 10th revision the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). Parents are defined as biological parents and adoptive parent. Accidents (3.1) and Suicide and intentional harm (3.2) are subcategories of External causes of morbidity and mortality (3). Totals are based on top categories. The figures are counts of all children, 17 years of age or younger, residing in Iceland on the 1st of January each year and for which their parent had passed away the previous calendar year. Parents are defined as biological parents and adoptive parent.
Malignant tumor is chapter 'C' of ICD-10. Diseases of the circulatory system is chapter 'I' of ICD-10. External causes of injury and poisoning are chapters 'V', 'W', 'X' and 'Y' in ICD-10. Accidents are chapters 'V' and 'W' in ICD-10. Suicide and intentional self-harm are chapters 'X' and 'Y' in ICD-10.
