Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

1 January each year. Statistics Iceland revises the boundaries of localities every 5 years in years ending with 0 or 5. The boundaries are found by concatenating addresses in a municipality within 200 m mutual distance. Sports arenas are included if needed. A 400 m zone is drawn around the localities thus found. Minimum population is 50 persons at the time of review. Statistics are published for the whole 5 year period, as well as the next 5 year period even if the population falls below 50. The method for estimating the population was revised in March 2024 and the time series updated from 2011 onwards, see details in the working paper.
