New entrants are those who are studying at the upper secondary level in Iceland for the first time according to the Statistics Iceland student register. In this table students are counted when they enter general programmes at the upper secondary level for the first time, but some of them are previous students in vocational programmes. It is not possible to add the number of new entrants in general programmes in this table and vocational programmes in the table on new entrants to vocational programmes at the upper secondary level to obtain the total number of new entrants at the upper secondary level, since some new entrants will be double-counted. Education is classified according to the international classification of education ISCED 2011 (International Standard Classification of Education 2011). The year in the table refers to the first year in the school year. E.g. 2016 refers to the school year 2016-2017.
