The data include new entrants in day courses at the upper secondary level of education, i.e. students who have entered upper secondary education for the first time according to the Statistics Iceland Student Register, since its start in 1975. Data from 1995 refer to all students, but the number of students outside of day courses is small. These new entrants are tracked for four years, six years and seven years.
Those graduates are counted who have completed a programme at the upper secondary level of at least two year duration according to the Statistics Iceland Register of Graduations. Some have completed both a general and a vocational programme and are counted both in the data on graduates in general and vocational education, but only once in the total.
Still in education refers to students who are studying in day courses, evening courses or distance learning at the upper secondary or tertiary level in Iceland but have not graduated.
Region depicts the location of the school.
The classification system of education was changed in 1997, which possibly results in some changes in data before and after that year.
