The data include new entrants in day courses at the upper secondary level of education, i.e. students who have entered upper secondary education for the first time according to the Statistics Iceland Student Register, since its start in 1975.
These new entrants are tracked for four years. Those graduates are counted who have completed at least a two year programme at the upper secondary level according to the Statistics Iceland Register of Graduations.
Still in education refers to students who are studying in day courses, evening courses or in distance learning at the upper secondary or tertiary level in Iceland but have not graduated.
Information on the connection between students and their parents is derived from population data. Information about the highest education of parents is classified according to ISCED 2011 and is based on data Statistics Iceland has on the highest education of individuals. These data are under development and are still provisional.
