The data include new entrants in day courses at the upper secondary level of education, i.e. students who have entered upper secondary education for the first time according to the Statistics Iceland Student Register, since its start in 1975. These new entrants are tracked for four years and six years.
Those graduates are counted who have completed at least a two year programme at the upper secondary level according to the Statistics Iceland Register of Graduations. Some have completed both a general and a vocational programme and are counted both in the data on graduates in general and vocational education, but only once in the total.
Still in education refers to students who are studying in day courses, evening courses or distance learning at the upper secondary or tertiary level in Iceland but have not graduated.
Classification of the backgound of students is derived from population data on immigrants and persons with foreign background. 'Non-immigrants' are those who have no foreign background, were born in Iceland with one parent born abroad, were born abroad with Icelandic background or were born abroad with one parent born abroad.
