The data refer to students at the tertiary level in Iceland in autumn 2002 who are not studying in autumn 2003 and have not graduated in the meantime.
Some of these students may only have taken a temporary leave from studying. Students in external learning are counted with students in distance learning. The year of study refers to the student's progress, not to the actual number of years the student has been studying. Thus, students in part-time study and students who fail their exams can be counted repeatedly in the same school year. There were no dropouts in the 6th year of study. When the data are broken down into subcategories there can be large fluctuations in the percentages due to the small number of students.
