Í þessum tölum eru taldir allir nemendur í nemendaskrá Hagstofu Íslands sem stunda nám innanlands og ofan grunnskóla. Gögn eru flokkuð eftir skólastigi, sviði og tegund náms í samræmi við alþjóðlegt flokkunarkerfi menntunar ISCED97. Hver nemandi er talinn aðeins einu sinni, þannig að stundi nemandi nám í tveimur skólum þá telst hann aðeins í öðrum þeirra.
Ártalið í töflunni á við fyrra árið í skólaárinu. T.d. á 2015 við skólaárið 2015-2016.
