Results are based on Eurostat's Labour Cost Survey. The Labour Cost Survey is a four-yearly survey.
Results are based on sample of firms and municipalities with ten or more employees. The sample also covers all government employees that work for institution with ten or employees.
Economic activity is NACE rev.2.

Total covers the economic activities Manufacturing (C), Electricity and steam supply (D), Water supply and waste management (E), Construction (F), Wholesale and retail trade (G), Transportation and storage (H), Accommodation and food service activities (I), Information and communication (J), Financial and insurance activities (K), Professional, scientific and technical activities (M) Public administration (O), Education (P), Human health and social work activities (Q) and Arts and recreation (R) (NACE rev. 2).
The economic activity Professional, scientific and technical (M) are not fully covered, therefore breakdown is not published in that sector.

Accommodation and food service activities (I)

Breakdown for the economic activity of the sector Accommodation and food service activities (I) was first published for the year 2020.

Information and communication (J)

In economic activity Information and communication (J) small enterprises are missing, so the coverage present is about 60%.

Public administration and defence; compulsory social security (O)

The economic activity is based only on employees from the public sector.

Education (P)

The economic activity is based only on employees from the public sector.

Human health and social work activities (Q)

The economic activity is based only on employees from the public sector.

1 Wages and Salaries (%)

Wages and salaries is sum of basic wages and salaries, additional allowances, expenses payments, bonus payments, shift premium, sickness pay, overtime pay, piecework, irregular bonuses, lump-sum payments, payments in kind, allowances for transport and other irregular payments.

2 Employers' social contributions (%)

Employers' social contributions is sum of remuneration paid for leave, pension fund contribution, social security tax, sickness fund payment, vacation (union) housing fund fee and other labour costs.

Labour costs (million ISK)

Labour cost is sum of wages and salaries and employers' social contributions.Taxes not included.

Taxes (million ISK)

The variable taxes cover all taxes based on the wage and salary bill or on employment. It is insignificant part of Icelandic labour costs in most economic activities.

Total labour cost is sum of wages and salaries, employers' social contributions and taxes.
