The values for January 2026 were updated on the 3rd of February 2026. In category 07221 Diesel and 07222 Petrol the effects of fuel additives were included in the assessment of tax impacts. In category 0711, Motor cars, the effects of tax changes were reassessed based on better information on import prices.
Base December 2025=100. The constant tax Consumer Price Index (CPI) is for analytical purposes and shows an estimate of the CPI as if no changes occur in taxes. It is listed each year which taxes and fees were included in the assessment. The results are always estimates since information on the exact effects of tax changes on prices is not available to Statistics Iceland. Values for the constant tax CPI are revised if new information becomes available or errors are discovered.January 2026 increase in specific taxes on alcohol, tobacco and nicotine products, liquid in disposable e-cigarettes, and liquid for refilling e-cigarettes. Abolition of oil tax and excise duties on petrol and increase in carbone tax. Introduction of a kilometer fee applied to all vehicles. Abolition of excise duties on electric vehicles. Increased excise duties for vehicles other than electric vehicles and a decrease in subsidy for electric cars. Increase in specific tax on distribution of electricity.
