The data refer to living foreign languages studied at the upper secondary level. Data for the years 1999, 2000 and 2001 were only collected for the autumn term. The data collection was changed in 2002-2003. The data were then collected both from the schools and from the data system INNA. In addition, the coverage of the data collection was expanded and since 2002-2003 the data refer both to students studying foreign languages in the autumn and spring terms. The data for both autumn and spring terms count each student only once every school year, even though he may study a foreign language both during the autumn and spring terms. Students who were enrolled in foreign language study only in the spring term are included in these data if they were registered students in the autumn term of the same school year. The data for the corresponding number of students enrolled only refer to students in the autumn term.
